Cleveland Brown owner stands by Johnny Manziel decision to check into rehab
Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, said that the team will continue to support Johnny Manziel as he continues with his treatment at rehab. "I think it's way too early to give up on Johnny," Haslam said during a meeting with the team's beat writers. "We certainly haven't given up on him."
He gives credit for the initiative Manziel took. "I applaud him for raising his hand and saying 'I need help,'" Haslam said. "We're going to do everything we can to support him. Our primary interest is making sure that he gets well, if you will. Fixes himself.
The Browns are on a mission to find the right quarterback for the team and Haslam refused to speculate whether Manziel will be in the 2015 roaster. “We are going to continue to look and find the right person,” Haslam said Wednesday in an interview. “It could be one of the three people on our roster last year, it could be somebody else. We are going to continue to look at the quarterback position. We understand how important it is.” Johnny Manziel is among the players listed in the roster.
Manziel had a tough time last year. It started with the Browns losing 30-0 during a game and Manziel missing workouts. When the season ended he was seen enjoying nightlife in Houston, Miami and Aspen and these drew a lot of media attention. "The spotlight on him is phenomenal," Haslam said. "Some he brought to himself, some of it part of the persona of Johnny Football. I hope to heck he can get himself straightened out."
Manziel checked himself into rehab on Jan 28.
